Anticipation

12.07.03 - Over the past 24 hours, the NOAA (www.noaa.gov) weather radio station forecasted 16"-24" of fresh snow for Jay Peak, VT. When we left for the Belfry early Saturday evening the snow was falling at 3" per hour. The anticipation of the following day's powder filled turns sent us to bed early and stoked...

Let's Party

We trekked to the base of the Jet triple chair at 8 am Sunday morning ready to ski the deepest powder this area had received in years. At 9 am we were in line for the second and third chairs at the Jet. At 10am, President Bill informed the powder hounds of 30-40 mph winds at higher elevations preventing the lift from running...

Still ready to party

It wasn't until 12 noon that we left our places in line for the warmth and comfort of 'stateside chili'. There isn't too much to say about today. We know there is 3 feet of snow in Timbuktu. For 4 hours, we stood in 12 degree temperatures stretching, visualizing, talking, freezing, filming, and wondering if we'd ski this 3 feet of snow. But we didn't. The lift never moved. The snow never stopped. Lifts open at 8:30 tomorrow morning. We'll be waiting.

All of the partying is reserved for tomorrow

And so goes the waiting game we play every season.

Skiing, more than any other sport, leaves it’s participants waiting for the coveted ‘Opening Day’. From watching the weather channel to bouncing from .com to .com, we attempt to guess when Mother Nature will start up her snowmaking guns...

Tenney Mountain on October 4, 200310.04.03 - Tenney Mountain promised an early opening to the 2003/2004-ski season and on October 4th, they delivered.
